Kiyosato highland in Hokuto-shi, Yamanashi prefecture, is located at the southern foothills of Yatsugatake mountain range and is in the middle of Honshu, close to both Nagoya and Tokyo. It has gentle and vast slopes at the foot and issurrounded by various mountains around 3,000 meters high, such as Mt. Fuji and Southern Alps contrasting beautifully to each other.
Yatsugatake offers activities such as enjoying seasonal changes in nature, visiting rustic ranches and museums in forests, and playing sports including mountain climbing and trekking in addition to sightseeing. It is an attractive outdoorfield.
In Kiyosato where the elevation exceeds 1,000 meters, we have abundant fruits from the earth which are grown utilizing the large difference in the temperatures in day and night. Not only highland vegetables such as lettuces and cabbages, but also corns and “hanamame”/ a kind of large Japanese climbing bean are so delicious that they will make a deep impression on people who bite into them.Kiyosato has many chefs competing with each other who are attracted to such highland blessings of nature.
In Kiyosato, where dairy farming has a history, there are sweets made from the fresh milk and places for us to try them.
Kiyosato resides at the edge of Yamanashi prefecture next to Nagano prefecture where you can enjoy traditional local wheat and “soba” or buck wheat cultures of both prefectures. Representing the wheat culture is “hoto” which is Yamanashi’s beloved local traditional vegetables and noodle bowl. “Soba” or buck wheat noodle restaurants also compete their uniquenesses against each other to convey the tradition to the generations to come. Please enjoy the Japanese cuisines full of individuality, made from ingredients specific to the highland and the mountains.
Furthermore, Hokuto-shi is one of the few areas that produce five kinds of alcoholic beverages, whiskey, wine, beer, sake and shochu. In addition, on the southern side of Yatsugatake, the rich soil nurture plenty of highland vegetables.

Access to Kiyosato
Kiyosato highland is easily reachable by cars and trains. In 3 to 4 hours from cities, one can be in a totally different environment looking at the lush natural landscape. There are easy ways from Tokyo, Nagoya, Kanagawa, Saitama, Shizuoka and Hokuriku. Please by all means go out.
By Train
From the vicinity of Tokyo.(around 2 hours and 30 minutes)
Take a Limited Express train on JR Chuo Line for around 2 hours from Shinjuku station to kobuchizawa station.transfer to JR Koumi Line for an around 30 minutes ride to Kiyosato station.
From the vicinity of Nagoya.(around 3 hours and 40 minutes)
Take a Limited Express train on JR Chuo Line for around 2 hours and 40 minutes from Nagoya station to Shiojiri station. Take a local train on Chuo Line for around 40 minutes to Kobuchisawa staion and transfer to JR Koumi Line for an around 30 minutes ride to Kiyosato station.
From the vicinity of Kawaguchiko.(around 2 hours and 30 minutes)
Take Fujikyu Railway Fujikyuko Line for around an hour from Kawaguchiko station to Otsuki station. Take a Limited Express train on JR Chuo Line for around an hour to Kobuchisawa, and transfer to JR Koumi Line for an around 30 minutes ride to Kiyosato.

Hokuriku Shinkansen around an hour 30 minutes from Tokyo station to Sakudaira station.transfer to JR Koumi Line for an hour and 50 minutes ride to Kiyosato station.

From Tsurugashima junction on Kan-Etsu Expressway, take Joshin-Etsu Expressway at Fujioka junction. Take Chubu Odan Expressway at Saku-Komoro junction. Get off at Yachiho interchange and take local roads.
From the vicinity of Shizuoka(around 3 hours)
From Shimizu junction on Tomei Expressway,Take Chubu Odan Expressway and local roads.Take Chuo Expressway at Futaba junction and get off at Sutama or Nagasaka interchange and take local roads.

JR Koumi Line
JR Koumi Line is plateau train passing through a high place in Japan of JR with Kiyosato Station. Please come to Kiyosato while enjoying the amazing scenery throughout the year.Between Kiyosato and Nobeyama there is also the highest “JR highest point” (elevation 1,375 m) in Japan, the highest in JR’s route. Next to that there is a “railroad shrine”. It was built in 2005 to wish for the safety and health of visitors, the development of the area. Train rails are enshrined.
The elevation ranking of JR ‘s station and the station of Koumi Line are dignifiedly occupying nine of the best 10. It is the best 3 of them. No. 1: Nobeyama station (elevation 1,345 m), No. 2: Kiyosato station (elevation 1,274 m), No. 3: Kai Oizumi station (elevation 1,158 m)
Kiyosato Picnic Bus
The southern route which goes around Kiyosato station and MOEGINOMURA, the northern route that takes the passengers to Utsukushimori and SEISEN-RYOU, one that crosses Higashizawa Ohashi bridge and goes around Oizumi, as well as another one that goes around Nobeyama during the Golden Week, in the summer time and fall weekends are usable in various ways as care-free transportations to every tourist attraction. Please use them for seasonal hiking and trekking, eating out, shopping and such.
